Challengers, a most awaited romantic sports drama starring Zendaya in the lead role, was released today (April 26, 2024). Directed by Luca Guadoagnino, the film receives rave reviews from the audience and mixed responses from the critics. Kyle Smith, one of the top critics from the Wall Street Journal, commented that director Luca created this film with many gimmicks that paint him as desperate for success. Despite his comment, several people supported the film’s story and praised Zendaya’s convincing performance as a tennis pro; some even said that a top star was in the making.
Lured in with a steamy scene, the Challengers movie repeatedly puts the audience on an emotional rollercoaster that pulls them into the imaginary lives of Tashi Donaldson, Art Donaldson, and Patrick Zweig. The first half seems slow and soapy, but the second half compensated more than enough to make a film’s success a sure thing. I really enjoyed the movie and the screenplay. Overall, it is one of the best works from Zendaya in recent times.
