Colt Gray is a 14-year-old student who opened fire at the Apalachee High School on September 4, 2024. He allegedly used an AR-15-style rifle to carry out the attack, which killed two teachers and two students. With the four dead, nine other people were hospitalized. According to reports, an anonymous tip was given to the FBI against Colt a year before the attack regarding some online threats to commit a school shooting at an unknown location and time.
In a joint statement from the FBI Atlanta and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, both the suspect and his father were interviewed by the police and the officials alerted the local schools for the continued monitoring of the suspect. But there was no probable cause for his arrest or to take any additional law enforcement actions, so they let them go. Lyela Sayarath, a junior at the school described Gray as an introverted person who likes to keep it to himself. Authorities took Colt Gray into custody and they informed the public that he would be tried as an adult in court considering the severity of the crime.’
