Mary Kay Holthus is the judge for Nevada 8th Judicial District Court. She began her career as a deputy district attorney for Clark County in 1991. On Wednesday (3 January 2024) morning, during a court hearing, she was brutally attacked by Deobra Redden, a criminal she had sentenced to jail. The video footage of the attack soon went viral on social media.

She won the general election on November 3, 2020, by defeating John Hunt for Nevada’s 8th Judicial District Court Department.
During the Tensure, she also served as chief deputy district attorney.
She spent 16 years prosecuting child abuse, se*ual assault, and some domestic violence cases.
