Harini Amarasuriya is a politician and activist who was designated as the 16th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. She is the third female Prime Minister of Sri Lanka after Chandrika Kumaratunga and Sirimavo Bandaranaike. Amarasuriya is a member of the National People’s Power political party.
Besides her political role, she worked as a senior lecturer at the Department of Social Studies at the Open University of Sri Lanka. Since 2020, she has been a National List Member of Parliament for the National People’s Power party. Harini was sworn in as Sri Lanka’s new Prime Minister on September 24, 2024.
