Saravanan is an actor, producer, and director who predominantly appears in the Tamil film industry. He played lead roles in movies like Vaidehi Vandhachu, Parvathi Ennai Paaradi, and Pondati Rajyam. Besides acting he also produced and directed films like Vishwanath, Santosham, and Thayumanavan. After a five years break he made a comeback through the 2007 movie Paruthiveeran.
Saravanan became famous after he entered the Bigg Boss Tamil Season 3 reality show. However, he was eliminated from the show due to his controversial remarks. His role as Durai in Dhanush’s Raayan movie was critically acclaimed.

- Saravanan got the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor – Tamil for his performance in the movie Paruthiveeran and was also nominated for the Vijay Award.
- In 2015, rumours spread that the actor was involved in Red Sandalwood smuggling in Andra Pradesh. The case became so serious with the controversial encounter that killed twenty people and a murder case was filed against the Andhra Chief Minister. When the media outlets contacted Saravanan regarding the issue, he completely denied his involvement in the case.
- Saravanan married his college mate a Telugu woman named Suryashree with whom he studied at Adyar Film Institute. He opened up about his second marriage during his confessional room time in Bigg Boss Tamil 3. He also said that his wife accepted the second marriage as they wanted a child.
